Happy Veterans Day!

Happy Veterans Day! A few quick facts:

We celebrate Veterans Day on November 11 because an armistice between the Allies and Germany went into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, which was the end of WW1 (the "war to end all wars...").

In 1926, Congress declared "the recurring anniversary of this date [November 11] should be commemorated with thanksgiving and prayer and exercises designed to perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations."

The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) was signed into law by President Clinton in 1994, which protects the employment rights of uniformed service members by ensuring they are not disadvantaged in their civilian careers, and promptly reemployed upon return from duty.

The Vietnam Era Veterans' Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA) prohibits federal contractors/subcontractors from discriminating in employment against protected veterans and requires employers take affirmative action to recruit, hire, promote, and retain these individuals.

Many states, like Colorado, also have laws protecting veterans from discrimination in firing and hiring, or interfering with military service.
